Obituary

On Saturday, April 30, 2022 God in his infinite wisdom called the name of Raymond L. Riddle, announcing that his mansion was ready for occupancy. Without prolonged goodbyes, Raymond‘s spirit peacefully ascended to his heavenly home, ending his journey here on earth.

Raymond Leon Riddle was born on March 16, 1960 to the late Raymond Vaughn and the late Blondell Riddle in Harlem, New York. While Raymond’s childhood was challenging, Raymond learned how to find joy in simple things when he moved from the city to Rockland County, New York in 1973.

One of those loves was basketball. Raymond’s focus on fundamentals coupled with a high basketball IQ earned a scholarship to Nyack College. After earning his Associates degree, Raymond decided to join the workforce and played in various recreational basketball leagues. After meeting his wife Latasha, Raymond was later motivated to return to Nyack College where he earned his Bachelors of Arts in Business and Leadership.

In his late twenties, Raymond learned that he suffered from renal disease but was fortunate to receive a kidney transplant which sustained him for nearly 14 years. After the transplant expired, Raymond endured countless hospitalizations for medical issues and was unsuccessful in retaining 2 additional transplants. Throughout these challenges, Raymond remained faithful, focused on his family and had the support of his wife Latasha, her parents and sister-in-law, through it all.

In addition to his love of basketball, Raymond was a man of faith and a licensed minister. He instilled in his children to love God, love self and love others. Raymond was a youth minister and ministered to inmates. In addition he hosted an after school program for at-risk youth, taking what he endured as a child to help others overcome their challenges.

As Raymond’s medical issues took more of a toll on his body and time, Raymond left the traditional workforce and began to focus on his children. He took the greatest source of pride in his children. He coached his son, Tyler from the age of 5 and later expanded his coaching to various basketball programs including CYO leagues. Raymond was a devoted father to his daughter Nicole, supporting her education, instilling in her a love of music and providing her with all needed to become a successful woman, spiritually and professionally.

While we will grieve the loss of Raymond, the cherished memories will remain, particularly in the hearts of those who loved him the most: his wife Latasha, two children Nicole Rae and Tyler Vaughn, his son-in-law, Khalif and his two granddaughters Leilah and Star; his brothers and sisters Albert, Katherine, Raymond, Cheryl, Torrey, Todd, and Troy; his adoptive mother Lady; his nieces and nephews, a host of cousins, and friends.

A Father's Heart

When a father loves it never fades.

He gives of himself in ways that cannot be explained.

A father protects, provides, and helps us through pain.

He can be all this to us even without the name.

When a father departs we are never alone because we have one in heaven who sits on a throne.

His love keeps us in all that we do.

Oh God, our God please carry us through.
